I bind my quilts EXACTLY like this, except for a minor difference in the final join: I join them as you did in Step 2 (adding in the 1/2″ for seam allowances) and sew and then cut on the 45. Same difference. 🙂 I hand-sew the mitred corners on each side too as I’m hand-sewing the binding down.
